About us

First it is important to us to say that we who are running this business are convinced Christians. We want to express this confession in our life, in what we are, in our thinking, work and actions. That is why we have chosen the name Agape for our company. The ancient Greek word Agape is really reserved for the unique love of God, which no one can attain to or practise in his own strength. (Human love is expressed by the Greek words Eros and Phileo.) We also will never be able to show this godly love to perfection, but we want it to be our standard and example in our work as well as the rest of our life.

1st aim

Our aims

One aim is to help our guests to get to know and love the different but rich culture and way of thinking of the Turks. We hope in this way to be able to impart an alternative and much more positive view of the people here, compared with the impression gained from many Turks in Western Europe, and so to help build bridges to the Turkish guest workers in Europe and overseas.

2nd aim A further aim is also to give the Turks who live here a different view of Christians from what they know through films and tourist resorts.
3rd aim: culture tourism We therefore believe that our third aim, the promotion of culture tourism in Turkey, includes the first two aims. Our guests stay in listed buildings in the old town part of Mugla, so are surrounded by the indigenous Turkish culture. Sometimes they experience weddings, engagements or circumcision celebrations, as these take place in the narrow streets surrounding their holiday home, and they are often invited to them.

A mixed culture

Further information

Turkish culture is really a mixture of elements from Turkish nomadic existence and from the Greeks, Jews and Armenians who formerly lived here. In Mugla for example the Ottomans and the Greeks lived together in great peace and friendship, as many of the older people here keep testifying. This togetherness produced interesting architectural styles, of which the town still has quite a few examples.

Ancient Christian remains Of course the ancient Christian remains that are so richly in evidence here are also of interest to our guests. Many of the letters in the Bible were written to congregations or individuals in this country. The seven letters in Revelation were also addressed to churches in the territory that today is Turkey.

Many photos
We have decorated this home page with many photos in order to give you a better overall impression of the area, even though we are aware that this does not make for the best possible design.

Our texts

We have taken many of the texts and descriptions on our internet page from the Mugla guide published by the town authorities, or from other guides. These will all be available for you to get more detailed information when you visit us.

We hope you will really enjoy exploring our home page, and that it will stir you to want more!

We would be delighted to be able to welcome you and to spoil you as our guests!
